Datsun South Africa Still Has No Plans To Leave The Market

Image
Nissan South Africa says there are “no plans at this stage” for its Datsun budget brand to exit the local market. Speaking during a virtual roundtable event with media, Kabelo Rabotho, Nissan South Africa’s marketing director, said Datsun models would continue to be sold locally. “The sale of Datsun in South Africa will continue. There are no plans at this stage to stop selling Datsun [models] in the local market,” Rabotho confirmed. The news comes after a source “with knowledge of the measures” told Bloomberg in May 2020 that Nissan would phase out its Datsun brand. Two months prior, Nissan closed its factories in Indonesia, pulling its Datsun brand from that market and reigniting rumours the budget division would be killed off. In addition, when unveiling its four-year transformation plan at the end of May 2020, Nissan confirmed it would close down its Datsun business in Russia. Late in 2019, Datsun South Africa described the rumours of the brand’s seemingly impending demise as

With modern automation now well and truly moving towards a 'clutchless' future, the technology has made its way to South African's popular A-segment in the form of the Datsun GO CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission). Datsun said adios to the South African market about 20 years ago, only to make its return in 2014. This time though there was no whiff of a modern example of the iconic Y and U-shaped chassis, instead, all roads lead to saving fuel and not hurting consumers' pockets - enter the Datsun GO compact city car. It’s Not An Automatic Getting right into the thick of things, the CVT transmission does take some getting used to at first, especially if you're experiencing it for the first time. Just like a wife or girlfriend in a bad mood, in the GO, you have to nurse and feed the throttle instead of mashing your foot down all at once. It is a bit sluggish from the pull away but once everything clicks and you eventually get going and the revs start to climb, th

We discuss the Datsun GO and GO Plus Updates from 2018: With new features, better safety and a fresher outlook the Datsun GO and Datsun GO Plus now offer more bang for your buck in the entry-level segment!  The Datsun GO and GO Plus entered the market in two consecutive years’, with the GO first debuting in 2014. The Datsun GO , which brought a fresh new design, tall-boy styling to the entry-level hatch segment quickly came to the forefront for being a fresh new offering. However, Datsun then still nascent in the Indian market failed to impress in the after sales, and a lack of a robust dealer/spare parts network. Datsun followed the GO with an estate version that they called the Datsun GO Plus in 2015. Once again, the car sparked initial interest before slowly fading away. Then,  3 years after the GO Plus, Datsun took another stab at the segment with the 2018 Datsun GO and Datsun GO Plus . Both cars are essentially the same, save for about 200mm of additional length and an extra row

A Few Things You Need To Know About The Updated Datsun GO It was my turn to spend time with our Datsun GO Lux this month and these are five things you need to know about the updated Datsun GO. 1. Colour Options Let’s start with the colour options, the Datsun GO is available in Orange, Brown, Red, Grey, Silver, and White colours. Although the sunset Orange is the most liked we opted for the silver and I still managed to ‘swag through the streets’ with our silver Datsun GO. 2. Fuel Efficient The Datsun GO sits well with me and my busy schedule, especially with my student lifestyle. It is affordable and saves petrol with about 5.5l consumed per 100 km. This magic figure is what we are averaging at the moment (and not forgetting that that the GO runs on a 3 cylinder 1.2l engine). 3. A good infotainment Being in traffic has been ‘fun’ as Apple Car Play allows me to play or stream good tunes and have WhatsApp messages read out to me without having to pick up my phone.

Datsun Go: Cheapest car to maintain in SA

The Datsun GO is the cheapest car to service or repair in South Africa, according to the 2019 AA Kinsey Report . It has won this title every year since its launch in South Africa. Datsun GO parts are the most affordable at Group 1 Datsun . Extended warranties and service plans make the price of service and repair parts less relevant for owners of relatively new cars, says consumer journalist Wendy Knowler. Crash parts, however, have a significant impact on all car owners. The cheapest basket of crash parts in South Africa are those of the Toyota Etios. Toyota scored another win with its Corolla Quest, which had the cheapest basket of crash parts in the "Family Favourites" category. Spare a thought for the “poor” BMW X5 owners; they drive the car with the most expensive basket of crash parts on the market.
