Buying your first car? The Datsun GO is what you need

Image
It's almost 2020. You're starting your first job, or even starting university, but the commute is going to be a bit of a battle - the Datsun GO demo is certainly what you need to 'GO' around. With the return of the brand to the country, the Datsun GO is the first offering from the manufacturers bearing the redesigned and modernised Datsun brand to take to Africa’s roads since the early 1980s. Not only is it a re-entry into the South African market, but it also marks the manufacturer's entry into the entry-level segment. In the 80s, the Datsun name was associated with vehicles that offered quality and reliability; at an affordable price for their owners. The Datsun GO is somewhat an obvious choice for the younger, first-time buyers or people looking for a comfortable and reliable vehicle, that is fuel efficient, to get you from A to B - when public transport fails us, as it does for many South Africans. Sales of the Datsun GO began in October 2018, and to dat...

Datsun Go Lux: A lot better – and a lot dearer too

Image
The upgraded Datsun Go  addresses many of the concerns raised on the economy hatchback's original debut. But it’s also become a lot pricier. Still, strong demand suggests that Datsun is on the right track. Right now, the cheapest manual-transmission new car you can buy will cost you R130,900 – still, a heap of money in a country where poverty is rife and almost 30% of the workforce is unemployed. That car happens to be the Renault Kwid, an Indian-built runabout that’s come under fire for its lack of safety features. And yet, the car has been selling up a storm, proving that there’s a real market for new, affordable cars. The Kwid’s closest rival is the Datsun Go – an Indian-built runabout. It too has found a steady stream of willing buyers, further emphasising that at this end of the market, affordability counts for everything. It’s a question of priorities: most entry-level buyers are seeking a reliable and affordable motoring solution. A lack of safety items such as airbags and...

Road Trip Safety Tips

Getting ready to hit the road for a multi-day adventure? Make sure that it’s a fun and safe drive no matter where you’re going with our top road trip tips. Buckle up. This may seem like a simple one, but buckling up can save your life. Car accidents are the number one cause of death of 1–54-year olds in America. By wearing a seat belt, you can cut the risk of being injured or killed by 50%. This is definitely our number one road trip tip for keeping everyone safe, so don’t put the car in gear until everyone is buckled in tight! Give your car a once-over. Is your car road-worthy? Ensure it is with a quick maintenance appointment at your local garage or by doing it yourself. You should check your tire pressure, tread levels, oil levels, wiper blades, and fluid levels. If it’s time for an oil change, get one. If you need to top off fluids, do it. If you need to patch or replace a tire, don’t skimp. It’s important that if anything looks funky, you get it fixed before it’s time to drive....

DATSUN GO NAMED AS SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST AFFORDABLE CAR FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Image
The Datsun GO has taken the 2016 Kinsey Report accolade as the country’s most affordable car - making it the second time in a row that Datsun has led the rankings as the car that is the most economical to maintain in South Africa. By scooping the field in 2015 and 2016 in the authoritative and comprehensive survey, the Datsun GO has fulfilled the promise Datsun made to bring quality, affordable motoring to South Africa’s competitive A-segment, said Des Fenner, General Manager of Datsun South Africa of the GO’s major achievement. During its two years in South Africa, the Datsun GO has made an indelible impression on the entry-level vehicle segment . The GO has not only helped motorists to contain motoring costs at a time when there are massive budget pressures on most households, but has also enabled many South Africans to enter the new car market for the first time. This has brought independence from public transport schedules to many and provided them with the personal mobility that ...

Datsun Go Motoring Review

Image
IT’S not very often that we see a new automotive manufacturer enter our market, let alone one that revives itself. I was recently at the launch of Datsun’s Go, a new model from the Nissan stable, aimed straight at the younger generation. The Datsun brand is well-known locally but this more youthful revival compared with the conservative products of the 60s and 70s, certainly means the brand has a new consumer base in mind. Unique selling proposition It’s difficult to bring up the Go without mentioning the price. You can set off to one of the brand’s 44 dealerships across the country and leave with a brand-new car for R89 500 (without power steering) and in these trying times, this is quite astonishing. Even the better-equipped Lux model comes in at R99 500, which includes power steering. This opens the brand up to a whole new segment of young, first-time buyers The pitfalls There are some problems with the car though, as the low price does not include ABS brakes or an airbag, ...

Discovering The Rainbow Nation In A 2018 Datsun GO

The Republic of South Africa and Datsun have a lot in common. Let’s find out…. How would it feel to drive a made-in-India car on a foreign land? What would it be like to drive a relatively small car on the wide highways of South Africa? These were some of the questions that were floating around in my head as our aircraft touched down at O. R. Tambo International Airport. This would also be the first time I’d be driving on foreign soil, so there was a good deal of excitement mixed with knots in my stomach. The updated Datsun GO and GO+ were recently launched in India, and are now on sale at South African Datsun Dealerships too, one of the key export markets for locally made RHD cars. Renault-Nissan’s Oragadam plant (Chennai) manufactures and exports both the GO and GO+ there. South Africa, I realised, and Datsun have a lot in common. One of the last countries to become independent nearly 24 years ago, South Africa has been recovering from colonialism and its aftermaths while...
